# Find a change. Put it back.

Everything you need to use Actorly, in the order you'll need it.

## Getting started.

Install Actorly and approve the permissions it asks for. Nothing is added to your storefront.

1 **Actorly takes a first look.** It reads the current value of the products, collections, inventory, discounts, shipping, markets, locations, themes and store settings it tracks, and of the pages, menus, files and other kinds it checks on a schedule. This is your starting point. Customers, orders, fulfillments, draft orders and selling plans are recorded only from their first change after you install.

2 **Changes start arriving.** From now on, the changes Shopify reports appear in Changes. Pages, blogs, articles, menus, URL redirects, price lists, policies and files are re-read on a schedule, because Shopify sends no change notice for them: weekly on Watch, daily on Restore. A change to one of those appears at the next check.

3 **Keep working as usual.** Your team edits in Shopify the normal way. Actorly records it in the background.

Changes from before you installed can't be recovered. Shopify doesn't keep them, so no app can show them.

## Reading a change.

Open any row in Changes to see the detail: what changed, what it was before, what it is now, when it happened and who made it if Shopify reports it.

## Who made it.

For product changes, Actorly matches the change against Shopify's own activity log for that product at that time. That's a correlation, and Actorly shows it as one: the name always sits next to a word that says how sure Actorly is.

**Likely** An entry in Shopify's activity log matched this change closely in time.

**Possible** An entry in Shopify's activity log was near this change in time. The match is weak.

**Unknown** Shopify does not record who made this change. This will not change later.

**Not attributed yet** Actorly is checking Shopify's activity log. If it finds no one within 24 hours, this becomes Unknown and stays that way.

**Investigating** Actorly is still reading a busy stretch of Shopify's activity log, and updates this when it has read it.

Where Shopify records nobody for that kind of change, such as inventory, shipping or themes, Actorly can tell you what changed and when, but not who, and shows Unknown. It never fills that in later. [See which parts show who](https://www.actorly.app/coverage).

## Finding a change.

Search by product, field or value. Narrow it down with the filters:

**Date** Any date range

**Type of record** Products, discounts, themes and the other parts Actorly tracks

**Type of change** Created, updated, deleted

**Who** Staff member, App, Shopify, Actorly, Unknown or Not attributed yet

**Confidence** How sure Actorly is

A person's or app's name is not a search term: the filter narrows the list, and every row still shows the name beside its confidence word. To see everything that has happened to one product, open it in the Data room. It lists the values Actorly holds and every recorded change.

## Putting it back.

Put select fields back, one at a time. From a change in the history, choose Restore this value. A restore runs in this order:

1 Look. Actorly asks Shopify what the field is right now.

2 Compare. If someone edited the field since you opened the restore, Actorly stops. It will not overwrite a change you have not seen.

3 Confirm. You confirm the exact value that will be put back.

4 Write. Actorly changes that one field, and nothing else.

5 Look again. Actorly asks Shopify again what the field is now.

6 Check. Only if the value Shopify now holds equals the value put back is it called Restored.

7 Record. The result goes into your history, like any other change.

If a check before the write fails, nothing is changed. If the check after the write cannot confirm the value, Actorly says so and asks you to look at the field in Shopify.

What can be put back: a product's title, status, vendor, type, description, theme template or tags; a variant's price; a collection's title, description or sort order; a location's name; a market's name; a file's alt text; a shipping profile's name. It never changes an order or a customer, and it does not bring back a deleted item. There is no bulk restore and no restore to a date. [See what can be put back](https://www.actorly.app/coverage).

## Exporting.

On the Restore plan, choose a date range and a type of record, a level of detail (Simple, Deep or Very detailed) and CSV or JSON, from the Data room.

## Plans and history.

Actorly Watch is free: three months of change history and one restore a month, on basic details such as a product's title, tags or description. Putting a product back on sale, restoring a price and restoring a collection's sort order are Restore features. Actorly Restore is $29 a month or $240 a year: unlimited history, unlimited restores and export. Billed by Shopify on your usual invoice. Change plan or cancel in your Shopify admin.

If you move from Restore to Watch, history older than 90 days is deleted after 14 days' notice and is not restored if you upgrade again.

When you uninstall, Shopify sends Actorly a deletion request 48 hours later, and Actorly then removes your store's history, saved evidence and account records. If you reinstall within those 48 hours, nothing is deleted.

## Troubleshooting.

### A change I made isn't showing

Changes Shopify reports are recorded from Shopify's change notices. Pages, blogs, articles, menus, URL redirects, price lists, policies and files are re-read on a schedule, weekly on Watch and daily on Restore, so a change to one of those appears at the next check. If it still isn't there, write to support.

### It says "Unknown" for who made it

Shopify does not record who made this change. Actorly won't guess, and it won't change Unknown to a name later.

### There's no Restore button

That field can't be put back, or you have used the restore included in your plan this month. Actorly Restore includes unlimited restores.

### A restore stopped before it wrote

Someone edited the field since you opened it, and restoring now would have overwritten their change without you seeing it. Nothing was changed. Look at what changed first, then try again.

**Still stuck?** Write to support.
